Gouldsboro, PA in the heart of the Pocono's played host to the Riptide Cycling 2014 team boot camp. Erin and Team Owner Teresa arrived early Friday to prepare for the busy weekend. Riders started arriving at Big Bass Lake on Friday afternoon geared up for a weekend of riding, yoga, team talk and camaraderie.
After a wholesome breakfast Saturday morning cooked by Jessica Kutz (perfect dippy eggs!) and Sue Seyboldt, the team was dressed and ready to roll. We headed out with Tina Kutz bringing up the rear driving the team SAG vehicle, as we were a large group of riders and this was paramount for safety. Beautiful scenery, rolling terrain, fast descents, windy conditions and some steep climbs provided a fun but challenging ride. With almost four hours in the saddle and over four thousand feet of climbing it was time to refuel over a pot-luck lunch before a yoga session led by Team supporter Ken Walsh's wife Lisa. Wheels, planks, downward facing dogs, inversions, we did it all! After a great dinner catered by Van Gilder’s Jubilee Restaurant, the rest of the evening was spent discussing the upcoming season.
On Sunday we awoke to temps in the mid 20's and a team decision was made to ride indoors. Trainers set up and rollers at the ready, Deborah Leedale-Brown coached the team through a tough workout with ride tunes provided by Erin Mandato! Our tired legs made the indoor session just as challenging as the previous days ride but we pushed each other to the end. Two hours and about 30 miles later it was time for our last yoga session. Lisa led us through another much needed practice focusing this time on gentle, restorative poses to stretch our tired glutes and hamstrings. After a much needed shower and a hardy lunch, the Riptide 2014 team boot camp was over...Let the season begin!
I know I speak for the entire team with the following HUGE thank you's: Erin Mandato for helping coordinate the weekend. Team Supporter, Ken Walsh for riding with us, providing us mechanical support and helping with trainer set up, Lisa Walsh for the fantastic yoga, Tina Kutz for tailing the team for the entire outdoor ride providing safe conditions and alerting us to passing vehicles, and finally Mr. and Mrs. Seppi for opening up their awesome house for us.
