Race date: April 6, 2014
Race Type: Time Trial
Riders: Jo Johnson
You just have to compete in this race. It is a 11.7 mile downhill, all out challenge. It is the fastest TT I have ever done. The drop is promoted as 700 feet. But there are really several plateaus during the descent. The only factor not listed is the wind. It is constant and in several directions but either a headwind or cross wind at 8-10 mph with gusts over 17 mph. Yikes. I switch from the deeper rim front tire so I can handle the bike a bit better.
I take off and think I should be going fast but it feels like a wall and that is downhill! This is going to be tough. It is. My goal is to be under 30 minutes. I am struggling and it is only 10 minutes in, then the road changes, I get a bit of downhill break and less wind, push again and finally I see the first "Special Event" sign and know I am getting closer to the finish line so I push with all I have left. I cross the line and think I am under 29 minutes. Yea. I think that time will be first after talking to my other age group racer. Results are not yet posted so not sure. After the finish I turn around and climb back up the "hill of death" as it is called riding in this direction. I don't think anyone joined the 30+ avg mph club today. Probably result: 1st
