Sunday was a beautiful day for racing in Marlton, NJ at the State Criterium Championships! The temperature was very comfortable at race time with LOTS of sunshine! All 20+ women racers lined up at the same time however the Cat 4 racers lined up in the back and started their race 1 minute after the Women's 1/2/3 race began. Barb, Deb, Andy, Erin and Jo were up front working hard for the designated sprinters for the day Andrea and Elissa so it was great teamwork all the way around for Team Riptide!

From Cat 4 rider Elissa Antelman's perspective...
The Cat 4 race went very smoothly. The race stayed together until the field sprint which started at the bottom of the hill before the last turn. Erin and I worked together well letting each other in when necessary and helping each other close the gaps on breaks that attempted to form. It was a 40 minute race so it was fast the entire timeand even faster up the hill but Erin and I were able to keep up well keeping ourselves in the top six spots throughout the race adn finishing fith and sixth in the field sprint!
From Elite rider Andrea Brennans perspective...
Team EPS/CSS traveled to Marlton New Jersey on a day that was perfect for racing. The sky was clear and the sun was warming the race course as a field of twenty plus women rolled up to the start line. Team EPS/CSS was out in full force with 7 of our riders ready to set a fast pace in a competitive field. After the officials gave final instructions, Team EPS/CSS rolled off the line at a fast clip. A number of attacks and counter attacks happened during first half of the race and all the EPS riders in the Women's 1/2/3 field were at the front working hard at some point in the race. Eventually breaks were pulled back to the main field. With three laps to go, in the elite field, Andy Maher road to the front setting a quick pace. On the last lap riders started blocking to place themselves strategically for the final sprint. The EPS/CSS lead out train go blocked effectively but our racers finished strong in 9th, 11th, and 18th.
The Cat 4 race was dominated in numbers the Action Wheels women's team who filled over 1/2 the Cat 4 field but Erin, Elissa and Jo were not intimidated and road very wisely and very strong. At the bell lap, Elissa put the hammer down sprinting for a fifth place finish with Erin finishing close in 6th. It was a great day of racing for Team EPS/CSS as every rider played an important role and contributed to the team’s success. A special thanks to our teammates Bobbie, Nicole, and Shannon for supporting us during team warm-up and cheering from the sidelines.
