Race: World Series of Bicycling Keystone Cup/Women’s Open
Race Type: Track
Location: Trexlertown, PA
Riders: Colleen Gulick, Monica Volk
Last night was the Women’s Open night at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center where Monica and I represented EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell. The field was over 20 women with a full team of 12 New Zealand riders, making the racing challenging. The first race was a 12 lap tempo where Monica placed 6th. The second race was a flying mile, the only race of the evening suited for sprinters and I placed 6th. In a consistent fashion Monica took 6th in the third race, the miss & out. With a challenging field and no clear people dominating the top of the leader board we were able to consistently place team EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell amongst the top riders. Today marks the 4 week mark from when I had shoulder surgery and last night was my first night back. I am glad to be back on the bike and representing the team and all of our great sponsors. While I still have a few days to go until I am completely cleared for all movements I am excited to start getting my racing legs back before elite nationals in the beginning of August. I personally owe a huge thank you to Teresa and the team for all of their support through surgery and getting back on the bike! As always, thank you to the sponsors who make all of our racing possible… EPS, CSS, Shebell & Shebell, Castelli, Laser Helmets, Brielle Cyclery, OGIO, and PowerTap.
