We woke up way before sunrise to make our way north to Allamuchy. Where the heck is Allamuchy? When we arrived at the lot, teammates Sue Seyboldt and Erin Mondato were already setting up the Team Riptide warmup area. Andy Maher arrived shortly after and the team helped guide Elissa Antleman in after a GPS malfunction. I guess her GPS didn't know where Allamuchy was either.
It was a chilly warm up with temperatures in the low 40's and before we knew it, it was time to pedal 2 miles to the start.
This was my second ever race and first with Team Riptide. Pedaling a few miles to the start was tricky for timing. I had only a minute to spare, which was helpful as I had less time to stand nervously in line listening to the countdowns.
I was clipped in, listening to my own countdown...5...4...3...2...1...go! My teammates cheered me on and off I went!
It was a fun, slightly twisty course. Plenty of signs and people making sure the racers made the correct turns and the local police were also there to make sure we were safe.
I gave it my all, pushing myself as hard as I could and was pretty happy with my performance, especially after nearly 2 months of being sick. I saw the 1km sign and pushed extra hard, seeing the slightly uphill finish in the distance. More teammates were there to cheer me on as I crossed the finish point!
Team Riptide had three racers podium, Andy Maher placed 3rd for Cat 1/2/3 women, Erin Mondato got 2nd and Nicole LaGorga got 3rd both for Cat 4 women.
It was a fun day spent with great teammates
