Riptide Cycling has kicked off 2015 with a very active January. The began with a team gathering where new sponsored goodies including Castelli Race Kits, Castelli Anniversary Kits, Lazer Helmets, Vittoria Shoes, Ogio International Bags and more were distributed to the team. The goody distribution was followed by a team photo-shoot by former teammate and cycling photographer Jan Curran. Individual head shots, group shots and some fun photos of the team were all captured. We are thankful for our former riders who stay committed to this team even after retirement, special thanks to Jan for taking the time out of your weekend for us! A quick team meeting to discuss plans for 2015 season followed by a structured 2 hour indoor trainer session finished off a very productive and successful day.
This past weekend the team was back together at the owner's home for the 10th Annual Riptide Cycling Party. The team is all very excited about this milestone and what better way to celebrate it than spending time together. Two of our dearest sponsors EPS/CSS and Brielle Cyclery joined us on our very special night, thank you Toni and James for your support and involvement from day one, the team loves you! As for our other sponsors who were not able to make it, we missed you all and hope that you will be able to make it in future years, we are thankful for your support. In addition to partying, awards honoring the accomplishments of 2014 riders were distributed. Congratulations to Colleen Gulick our MVP, Erin Mandato our Most improved Rider, and Bobbie Mach our Team Riptide Award Winner. Honorable mentions to Deborah Leedale-Brown, Shannon Grieb and Audrey Wendowloski, Audrey has been with the team since 2005! Memorable videos of Team Riptide over the past 10 years were shown and how can we forget the food! Dinner and dessert was a team effort and the end result was a work of art! A great night was had by all! We can not thank our sponsors, friends and family that make this team possible enough, our dreams to pursue cycling wouldn't be a reality without you!

Race: 1st Annual Carl Soto Memorial Criterium
The women’s 1/2/3 race on Sunday was in Santa Barbara, California (2 hours north of LA). The 40 minute race was very stop and go. The race contained a total of 8 premes, which certainly kept it interesting with sprints, counter attacks, and team tactics. I was able earn 4 premes for the team on the 1 km flat, fast course. The final sprint was highly contested but I was pleased to get EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell on the podium with a 2nd place finish. Next Sunday I will travel 2 hours south to San Diego for the Red Trolley Criterium, which has big shoes to fill after a 64 person women’s field last year. More updates will come soon. : )

This past Sunday was the second race in the SoCal Criterium series. The women’s 1/2/3 race began in the afternoon. The race was 40 minutes long on a fast course. There were 4 riders from the Optum team in the race so I knew things would be a bit challenging. Almost immediately the race shattered, and I was happy to be in a break with two of the Optum riders and one Monster Media rider. I figured that my odds would be pretty decent, hoping that the Monster Media rider and I could form a 2 vs 2 combination towards the end of the race. Well, my plan was quickly foiled when the other two Optum riders got away from the back and joined our break about 10 minutes into the race. I was significantly outnumbered and tried my best to cover the counter attacks. I lasted about 25 minutes of covering every single attack. The well-rested Optum riders took off and left the Monster Media rider and I to battle it out for 5th and 6th place. I was pleased to win the sprint and earn a 5th place spot after a difficult race. It’s days like these that make you grateful for the support of great teammates. : ) I am looking forward to joining the rest of the squad back in PA and NJ this summer where we can play the odds in our favor. Next week is the Calos Soto Memorial Criterium… the third race in the SoCal Cup Series (I believe I am currently winning the series but I will confirm after the results are posted online). : ) Looking forward to wearing the ever-popular orange helmet and kits next weekend.

The Ontario season opener, the Ontario “Icebreaker” Grand Prix, marks the 4th annual race for the Ontario Series and is the 2015 season opener for the SoCal racing calendar on January 11th.
On Sunday the 2015 racing season officially begun in Southern California. On a rare rainy day the women's 1/2/3 criterium began our 40 minute race. I was fortunate enough to be able to represent team EPS/CSS p/b Shebell & Shebell on the west coast. The lively first race of the season came down to a sprint finish where I was proud to earn the team a step on top of the podium and start off 2015 with a win.
The next race in the Southern California series will occur this Sunday, the CBR season opener. thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters as we begin the 2015 season!
