We are on a flat and fast course normally used by the Bob Bondurant Car Racing School. What a great site with wide, well
maintained surface. And as one of the youngsters stated, there is even "a legit bathroom".
The layout is like an oval but the back straight really is a series of right and left turns none are very technical
and the course has a nice fluid flow to it. It would be great to race this in a Formula Mazda. I remember past days but that is
for another story.
All the woman lined up together, age groups 30 to 65+. This race would be fast from the start with this format. It was. We took off at 24 mph and I quickly settled into a pace I could maintain this day. Seemed as though I was working harder than the previous week and of course I had not considered the constant wind that was in our face around the end corners. No wonder. Within a few laps I began trading leading laps with my competitors and that is how we rode until the last few laps. With a few laps to go, I was now working only with one other rider in my age group and we were trading off nicely. Now with 2 to go I upped the pace but she was still there. Not being able to shake her on the last lap, we slowed the pace a bit, riding side by side. Then on the last turn which is like an oval, I up the pace again, then with the transition onto the front straight, I stand and begin sprinting for the line. We are side by side at the line but she comes in only a wheel length ahead. Another fast race, average is 19.9 mph but top speed is 25 on the sprint.
