Race: Cycledrome Crit Women’s Open
Location: Trexlertown, PA
Rider(s): Monica Volk, Alli McCabe, Carren Stika, Evely Korbich
The Cycledrome crit is held at the Bob Rodale Cycling and Fitness Park just across the street from the Valley Preferred Cycling Center velodrome. It’s a very safe course, just about a mile long lap, with rolling hills and sweeping bends. The women’s open had 14 racers ranging from brand new cat 4’s to National Champions. Early in, these pro’s had no desire for the leisurely stroll in the park and we were off with a bang dropping some of the weaker links. The dangerous duo of pro’s, Colleen Hayduk and Kim Giest, got away from the field about 7 laps in, leaving everyone wishing they could have been on that train. EPS Riptide put in large efforts to chase the duo down, closing the gap to just over 15 seconds at one point, but there just was not enough consistency in the small field to make the bridge or reel them back in. Colleen Hayduk, the esteemed sprinter took the win followed by Kim Giest. The field sprint was won by Elspeth Huyett follow by our EPS rider Monica Volk for 4th. Evelyn Korbich, our Cat 3, finished very strong in 7th place, helping maintain her lead for the PA BAR Cat - 3 women.
Monica Volk – 4th
Evelyn Korbich – 7th
Carren Stika – 12th
