What a great day for me. With sunny and warm temps and being a PA BAR event with a good field of approximately 14 fast riders I pushed myself again. Looking at the 3 races for the day, 10 lap Tempo, 5 lap scratch, 15 lap Points with sprint every 3 laps, I decided to challenge myself and go up another 2 gear inches to a 90 inch gear. I had not been in this gear for about 5 years. So I must be getting stronger.
First race, 10 lap Tempo, I wanted to go to the front and push the pace which I did for the first 3 laps then the youngsters upped their pace and I fell back to the back of the group but not completely out. I managed to hang with the group through about 8 laps before just coming off the back a bit.
Second race, a 5 lap scratch, I again went to the front and this time I pushed the pace a bit more and led through the first 4 laps before the youngsters decided to up the pace and went past. But I managed to stay with them this time and finished with the back of the group.
Third race, 15 lap points race became a 12 lap points race. This time I went to the front for the first lap then swung up track and caught on the single file paceline of riders. I hung in well when they bunched up a lap later, then with the sprint, I pushed the effort and stayed with the back riders. I was able to mix it up a bit with some of the riders and at the end, pass several of them coming to the line.
Results; Finishing better in the group and efforts getting better each week.
