In the first 2 days of 5 days of competition the weather has cooperated with cooler than expected temps in the 80's and slight wind. A couple of days before start of competition I had a chance to open up my legs on the track and practice my pacing amoung other efforts. Tuesday was my first day of competition with the 500 meter Individual Time Trial. It is a flat out 2 laps of this 250 meter track with its 43 degree banking. Wow! Fun! My competition is tough all week. A world record holder to contend with! Result for me besides FUN was a new personal best by another half second. And a second place finish.
Today, the 28th, was the 2k Individual pursuit. This is an 8 lap all out but paced event with riders starting opposite each other and we pursue each other. I am ready to go, start fine, transition to aerobats quickly and ramp the effort up. Then try to relax which is almost impossible for me. At the 4th lap, I am beginning to feel the effort and gradually begin to slow a bit and then it is quickly over and I take a few laps around the cool down circle before I can actually stop and get off. Whew! I do not seem to have much energy to get off my bike. I am spent. My time though not what I wanted, places me in 2nd. Day over and time to catch my breath.
