![]() Race Dates: June 1st, 2014 Race Type: Road Race State Championships Location: Elmwood, NJ Rider: Shannon Grieb, Nicole LaGorga, and Andy Maher It was a BEAUTIFUL day for racing and the NJ State Road Race Championship 2014 was held today in Elmwood, NJ. This road race was a 40 mile road race with combined field of Cat 4 women racing at the same time as the Cat 1/2/3 women. 36 ladies took on the challenge of this four corner road race! Check out Nicole LaGorga's thoughts and feelings on our 1st ever road race by clicking on the READ MORE link below! Results Andy Maher 9th Women's Cat 1/2/3 Nicole LaGorga 15th Cat 4 Shannon Grieb 19th Cat 4 Shannon and I loaded up the car today to drive down to the blueberry fields of Southern New Jersey to meet our teammate Andy who had been there since 6 a.m. working the feedzone for the men’s fields. The route was a nice mostly flat 40 mile course with 4 corners in each of the three laps. It was an open field of 36 women, and we raced the entire race together as one pack – there was no category split. Even when Kim Zubris broke off the front of the pack at the beginning of the second lap – we all surged together. This was only my second road race, but it seemed to me that having us 4’s mixed up with the 1/2/3’s was causing some issues. It was hard to tell who we were racing against as our numbers all started with a two. The first lap was fast. The second was fast and smooth. The third was steady until we had about 5 miles to go. Then all heck broke loose. Every team was trying to play out their end –of-race strategies, and as we came through the last double corner turn everyone kicked on their afterburners and made a go for the finish line. Andy came in top 10 in the cat 1/2/3 field with a 9th place finish. I (Nicole) was happy to come in 15th place in the Cat 4 field, with Shannon behind me in 19th. Everyone stayed rubber side down, and ended the race smiling. I’m very grateful for the support and help I’ve gotten this year from my new EPS teammates and our sponsors. Both Shannon and I are looking forward to our next road race when more of our teamies can be out there with us, instead of tracing and tending to the needs of our awesome racers today over at the Parx Philly Classic Pro Race!
