Navy Yard. I love racing at the Navy Yard. It's fun, it's always stacked, it's technical, it's fast... it's one of the best crits around. This year was no exception. With the course changing every year, this installment featured a VERY long sprint from the final turn to the line with a cross head wind. It was going to be tricky and it was going to be awesome.
We thought that a break might happen, so we were very attentive for those moves, really covering anything that went and even getting a sweet taste of separation for a hot second when I was able to get up the road with the likes of LVG, LDags, and Amy Cutler. But, another team that was not represented in the break pretty quickly shut it down and brought us back. However, the field shattered, due to the windy conditions and technical corners, so by the end, Deborah, Emily, and I were in a group of about 15-16 riders getting ready for a sprint to the line.
The Fearless Femmes launched a rider with one to go. I had hoped that someone would chase her down quickly, but the field seemed to hesitate. After the 2nd turn, I went to the front and buried myself to try to close the gap to their solo rider. I got her within range of the peloton by the final corner where I promptly blew up and watched the glory of sprinters in flight ahead of me. Jessica Mundy managed to hold her lead to the line, with the field hot on her heels. We finished the day with Deborah in 5th, Emily in 7th, me in 12th, Meredith in __ and Gabby in __. We missed the podium by just a smidge, but had a GREAT team race and banked some dollahs for the team kitty!

Racing at the Naval Yard has always ranked high on my list of most fun criteriums. It is always fast, technical corners, plenty of attacks and head winds. Add rain to this mix and you have Saturday's race! The rain started out as a light drizzle and most of us thought it would soon pass, but as the rain and wind picked up during our race it caused for slippery conditions. Maria and I managed to stay in the lead group as our pack slowly started shrinking due to crashes and dropped riders. There were a few attacks on the back side, but nothing that stuck. In our final lap the pace really picked up. I found a good spot sitting third wheel into the final turn and we took off out of it. I held QCW's wheel and found it difficult to see as my glasses were covered in road grime and fogging up! I held my third place across the finish line and Maria finished a strong 10th. We were happy to have raced safely and strongly given the conditions!
Alli - 3rd
Maria - 10th
