Race: Race Avenue Crit
Location: Lancaster, PA
Riders: Evelyn Korbich; Carren Stika
The afternoon of Father's Day 2015 found Carren, myself and 12 other ladies toeing the line of the Race Avenue crit course in Lancaster, PA. The race started off at a moderate pace, with quick attacks happening that kept the speed higher. Towards the halfway point of the race things started to get interesting as the bell was rung for a preme and the pace really picked up. As we surged up the small, homestretch climb of the course I picked a fast wheel and ended up out in front of the pack with two other ladies. Unfortunately, the break didn't stick and we were quickly reeled back in. A few laps later a similar break formed except this time neither Carren nor I was in it so we worked together to close the gap. As the race wound down I was getting antsy as the pace slowed, because people were trying to avoid pulling, so I went to the front. I tried to keep the pace high enough that there wasn't much room for movement in the pack. This tactic seemed to work as it allowed Carren to hold her position near the front and I was able to drop into a spot right behind her. Our good positioning allowed us a slingshot into the final sprint and we crossed the line side by side to secure 6th and 7th place.
Results: Carren - 6th; Evelyn - 7th
