![]() Race: 2017 Saddle Sore Criterium Date: March 12, 2017 Location: Carneys Point, NJ Rider: Danielle Ferland This past weekend kicked off the New Jersey Cat 4/5 Women’s Cup Series with the Saddle Sore Crit in Carneys Point, New Jersey, as well as the 2017 season for rider Danielle Ferland. The course was a short 1/2 mile, four (4) cornered loop around Pennsgrove High School. The weather was frigid but it was great to see some familiar faces from the cat 4 racing scene, as well as getting to know some new ones. Every race, win or lose, is another chance to learn and improve as a rider; this crit was no exception. All bundled up from the cold, the cat 4/5 women had a staggered start followed shortly after by the cat 5 men. Danielle had a very strong start and led the group through the 1st lap before settling into a comfortable position in the pack. Several laps into the race, the cat 5 men had caught the women’s field, at which point the organizers had made it clear that the fields were allowed to mix. Knowing that several of the women would attempt to make the jump in with the men, Danielle was ready to jump with them… until a mechanical mishap prevented her from shifting. Despite being stuck in a single gear for the remainder of the race, she still pedaled her legs out and finished the race. Best of all, the bike was easily fixed! Danielle was very happy just getting back outside on the bike finishing a safe race and hopefully getting the mishaps out of the way early! Results: 8th
