Well this race did not pan out to be all I wanted it to be but the results were good regardless. The day started off very rough when the GPS coordinates to the race brought me to a tiny village 25 minutes from the races start so from there I had figure out where I was and how to get to where I needed to be without a SatNav that would help me. I eventually showed up the race HQ 20 minutes before my start time which gave me just enough time to pull my bike off my car, get my kit on and ride to the start. No warm up, no prerace nutrition or hydration, nothing. The course itself was on a dual carriage way (2 lane high way with median inbetween for those of you state side) which was a 1st for me and very very nerve wracking considering it was very windy and my start time was 2:04pm and there was lots of traffic and LOTS of lorries (semi trucks). This race was a simple out and back with the wind at my back going out and in my face coming back. I think due having to rush to my start time I just didn't have time to get my head in the race like I needed to in order to compete well at this kind of race. I started out the race WAY too hard and had very little to give on the return trip headed into the wind. I wish my head was more in the game so I would have been able to push myself both mentally and physically on the return half of this race. Regardless I finished this race with a PB by 1:15 minutes. This race had a high pay out for the ladies which is rare over here so there were some VERY big hitters in this race (former national champions, many current national level riders, etc) so the times were FAST!! I am not disappointed in my results...just disappointed knowing it could have been so much better than it was.
