Race: Somerdale Tour de Fish (Crit)
Location: Somerdale, NJ
Rider: Evelyn Korbich, Alli McCabe
This 8-corner crit began in the 9am summer heat with a strong field of ladies inthe Women’s Open, ready to tackle the 40 minutes of racing ahead of them. Alli and Evelyn had goals to sit at or near the frontof the pack so as to watch the sprinters that they knew were inthe field. The race started out at a decent clip as everyone settled into their positions and the higher categories attempted to shake off some of the cat 4s. Luckily, Alli wasn’t shaken off and was feeling good enough to go for the first preme about 6 laps into the race. But her effort was for naught as one of the sprinters sat on her wheel and came around on the line, then kept the pace high into the next few corners. This high pace didn’t let Alli catch back onto the group and she was left time trialingthe rest of the race by herself.
Evelyn was just able to hang in and sat towards the middle of the paceline for the next few laps, only changing position on the preme lap when she followed a sprinters wheel to the front. This was a mistake as she had very few matches left but she was able to recover and position herself well with two laps to go. Except that when the pack came around again for the bell lap it was two to go again… That threw everyone off and Evelyn was shuffled to the rear of the group when the bell rang and she had to claw through the riders in the back to pull out a 7th place finish. Alli was able to stay strong and pass enough of the dropped riders to secure her a 10th place finish.
Results: Evelyn ~ 7th
Alli ~ 10th
