Road Race summary:
The road race was a hilly 77-mile course, in one big loop. Getting to the area a few days prior to this first race I could start to accumulate to the higher altitude of the area and ride parts of the course. The group stayed together in the first part of the race going over and down the mountain having so many miles yet to go. It was coming back up and over the mountain where the race started to smash apart. The day itself was so hot and mixed with altitude, the quantity of hills, and distance, made for one tough race. Definitely one of the toughest road races I have been in so far. I was so happy to have finished 2nd in that race.
The time trial course was straight forward 6 miles out and back on a flat course in the valley region near Lake Tahoe, a completely different scenery. Knowing that time trials are not my strong suit I went out there and tried my best. I finished 6th and know what I need to work on for the future.
Even though California is in a drought, it decided to rain on crit day. The 6 corner crit was attacked from the start by an Exergy rider, a move made before everyone had clipped in. Continuing to start chase efforts, sadly no one else wanted to put in the same kind of the effort to catch the breakaway rider. In good position coming into the last corner for the sprint, unfortunately I slid out from the slippery roads. I got up and rode to the line for 6th. More disappointed about missing another chance to medal than being banged up, I realize that racing is unpredictable that is just part of the sport. I’m healing up and ready to get back out there. I’m ready to step it up and happy to represent EPS riptide.
