What is your most embarrassing “on the bike” moment?
At one of my first road races, I broke away from the field and thought I’d won. However, I hadn’t paid enough attention early in the race, and another rider got away before I did. After the race, my husband gently pointed out that if the lead car is not in front of you, you’re not leading.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what 5 things would you want with you?
Lots of peanut butter, a water distillery, my bible, a gun, and a knife.
When did you start riding bikes more than recreationally?
My first race was in 2006. It was the NJ state road race. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get clipped in and would get dropped at the start. My confidence was much improved after I stayed with the field for the first lap without too much difficulty. The second lap the field actually started racing. I got dropped and barely finished the race. I learned many lessons that day, such as 15 mile endurance rides are not sufficient training for 40 miles of racing, and it is possible to go through a corner at greater than 10mph!
