This week the ladies of Team EPS/CSS p/b Shebell&Shebell would like to introduce you to Emily Smith!!! Emily started riding bikes with her dad at the age of 12!! She has even been a member on the Boston University Cycling team!!! Read below the answers Emily gave us to some questions to learn even more about her.
Do you have an embarrassing bike moment you can share with your friends and fans?
My spectacular one-person explosion of a crash on lap 1 of Sly Fox CX this year was not my proudest moment.
Please share a little known fact about yourself not related to bike riding/racing!
I played roller derby for about two years. I've practiced and played with teams all over the country. It's been ages since I've played, and the game has changed so much, but I still miss it sometimes!
What makes you feel accomplished?
I've recently started practicing yoga. Every week I'm able to do something a little better than the last, which is immensely gratifying.
What is the craziest thing you have ever done and would you do it again?
Doubted myself - a few years ago, some very speedy friends invited me on a 140 mile ride from Boston to Provincetown. I agonized over the decision to join, doubting that I could ride that long with people so fast. Turns out, I could and I did! That ride stands as one of my most memorable days on a bike. There's nothing you can't do with a little determination (and a lot of potato chips).
If you could give one piece of advice to women who are considering entering a cycling race what would it be?
Make sure you try your absolute hardest during the race, so you can rest easy that night knowing you put out your best effort.
